Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve in March

Some posts are too long for blog entries so I make them pages instead and link to them on the sidebar. This is another one of those posts.

I haven't been to the Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve in Clifton Park, NY for at least a couple of years. There are several reasons for that. It's not nearly as close as Peebles Island or the canal trails which I can actually walk to. I have to drive there. If you're after photos of wildlife, it's pretty much just birds and you'd better have a really long lens. And if it's mosquito season, forget photos. If you even pause while walking you get swarmed.

In March, however, there are no mosquitos and you can shoot landscapes without all the foliage on the trees and bushes. In the early morning, the trails are frozen so there's no problem with mud either.

So, here are the results of this morning's (3/24/2018) 4.5 mile hike around the preserve as documented on the Strava app screen capture, beginning and ending at the Whipple bridge parking lot. If it looks like I got a bit lost right before I connected with the road back to the Whipple bridge, that always happens.

These photos are in chronological order starting at the parking lot (which is the checkered flag icon) as I walked in a counter clockwise direction. I forgot to start the app until the green dot. Equipment is my 5D Mark III and 17-40mm f/4L lens. I carried my compact tripod but didn't end up using it. The double old lock 19 is at the Western most point of the hike where I doubled back to take the trail through the woods.

All photos are five file HDR composites. All were made at f/8 and ISO 100.
