Niagara Falls, Canada

Yesterday saw a quick over night stop at Niagara Falls, Canada, arriving a couple of hours before sunset. Luckily, the rainy weather had passed and there was enough late sun for some decent lighting.

I did forget to put a UV filter on the front of the 24-105mm lens and had to wipe accumulated mist off of the front element once with a clean handkerchief. I have a 30 image gallery located at https://trulandphotography.com/niagarafalls. Here some downsized samples.

Nova Scotia Trip Gallery

I remember long ago when anyone would go on a road trip there would be a gathering later on to view their slides from the trip. That just isn't done any more and this gallery on Zenfolio, with it's slide show feature, is about as close as it gets these days. You can view the 146 photo gallery at https://trulandphoto.zenfolio.com/novascotiatrip.

I noted previously that I shot 1,804 files on the trip. I used all three bodies and all six lenses I brought with me.

Here are some photos I'm just processing today as, while on the trip, I looked for six to eight shots that could describe each day.

Ogunquit in December - Day 1

Last evening was cold and windy on the Southern Coast of Maine. A stop at Cape Neddick on the way to Ogunquit was timed perfectly at about sunset. Here are some shots of the lit up Nubble Light.

Nighttime with the EF 35mm f/2 IS Lens

Waterford, NY had it's Christmas parade and tree lighting last evening. To walk over from my home I cross a bridge over the Hudson River. Here are some shots of the festivities and some shots from the bridge. This was well after sunset but there was enough reflected light in the sky that the camera meter tried to make it dusk.

These are all made with my EOS 5D Mark III and EF 35mm f/2 IS USM lens.

Last Post for 2015

With only 30 blog posts in 2014 I resolved to be more active in 2015. While I didn't reach my high of 73 posts in 2013, given that I only had 6 posts at the end of March (bad eye infection), a post a week this year is not bad.

This final post of the year features some shots from the family's Tuesday day trip to New York City to see the awesome musical "Allegiance" featuring George Takei, Lea Salonga, Telly Leung and others. It's an amazing show and probably my favorite Broadway experience.

But you can't visit The City without taking in the usual sites, especially at holiday time. I brought my 5D Mark III and EF 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens in a small ThinkTANK Photo Mirrorless Mover bag. None of these are great photographs but it was a fun time.

See you next year.

Holiday Lights

The Soldiers and Sailors Park in Waterford, New York is nicely lit up for the season. I walked over there this evening to get some shots of the lights. A couple of these will probably end up in the 15 with the 50 project as all were made with the 5DIII and 50mm STM.

ISO was 3200 and aperture was f/4. Shutter speeds ranged from 1/10 second to 1/90 second. The last image is of a private residence a block away from the park.

Nighttime HDR Street Scenes

For something a little bit different, I walked over to the Village of Waterford after sunset and shot some scenics under artificial lighting. I had with me the 5D Mark III and 24-70mm f/2.8L lens.

I was able to hand hold five image bracketed shots by using f/2.8 and ISO 1600. Here are a few of the resulting images.
