Buying Into the Prime Plan

I shot an event at Saratoga National Historical Park yesterday and the experience revealed a flaw in my planned arsenal of 16mm, 28mm, 50mm and 85mm prime lenses. Having traded in my two zoom lenses I need to have a suitable focal length lens on each body in order to quickly grab shots showing the context of the event as well as close ups of the activity.

In the past I would use the 24-105mm lens. Yesterday I used the 28mm and 85mm lenses. The 28mm lens was a bit wider than I needed. The 50mm lens would be too close to the 85mm lens to make sense and probably not wide enough. So, today I decided to add the 35mm f/1.8 IS lens.

I will keep the 16mm, 28mm and 50mm lenses handy for specific uses but will normally keep the 35mm lens on the R8 and the 85mm lens on the R6. Today's walk around Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve was about testing out the newest lens to make sure it functions properly so these are all with the R8 and 35mm lens.
