Newest Toy

I went out this morning with my newest acquisition, a used EF 24-70mm f-2.8L USM lens I picked up to go with the full frame 5D body. I'm selling my 17-40 lens since I'll rarely want anything wider than 24mm on the full frame body and the quality of the new lens is superior.

It's an amazing lens. It's nice a single lens will do wide scenics and then close focus at 70mm to give some respectable close-ups.

Here's two examples from earlier today.

Macro Sunday

I went out a couple of times yesterday with just the 5D and the EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro . In the morning I used a tripod for some weed closeups.

In the afternoon I visited a backyard garden to shoot handheld.

This is Absolutely Absurd...

...but I want one so badly. It would work great with my 70-200.

Imagine the crop factor!! Using only the sweetest spot of the lens.

Update: OK, it seems the device has a "focusing screen" in the extension tube like part. I assume the iPhone camera will focus on that screen. So, crop factor not apparent. And the image is upside down since there's no mirror.

But, I still want one!

If you want to buy me one, you can get it here.

From Small Bird to Big Bird

The mosquitos were awful this morning at Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve. I managed to stop walking long enough, though, to shoot this Great Blue Heron with the 50D and 400 5.6 with 1.4x.
